Introduction to Updating NCR Silver
NCR periodically release updates to their NCR Silver Software to introduce new software developments and to issue bug fixes, a new release is generally every 3 months.
Before updating there are two distinct differences to how your software might be installed, in both cases, if in doubt do call us and we can clarify which version applies to you;
-
With a Store Server
- This means that all the tills communicate with a Store Server onsite (this is a Mac Mini), this is usually in a table service situation, however some quick service restaurants will have this too.
- If you login on one till and start your shift, and then log out and can login again on a different till without needed to start a new shift this is an indication you have a store server.
-
Without Store Server
- The iPads onsite run independently of each over as two separate devices. If you have more then 1 iPad you need to create a shift on both the instore iPads and you cannot share tabs and tables.
Important Information Before Installing Update
- In both the case of a store server, or without store server, we would recommend performing the update outside of trading hours to minimise disruption.
- The upgrade should be performed using the “upgrade” function within the Apple App Store. Not by uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Uninstalling and re-installing the app will require the NCR Silver program to be reconfigured for the printers etc, whilst upgrading will retain the app settings.
- Depending on the speed of your internet, the process should only take a few minutes per till.
Upgrading - With a Store Server
NOTE: When upgrading, you will need to upgrade a single iPad first, this will then request to upgrade the server software on the Mac Mini and when the 1st iPad and Mac Mini are upgraded, you can then upgrade the rest of the iPads in your restaurant.
1. Open the Apple App Store
2. Select the silhouette of a person in blue at the top right of the screen
3. Scroll down to see Available Updates. Press Update next to NCR Silver Pro and wait for it to finish downloading. During this time you will not be able use the NCR Silver Pro application.
Can't see an update?
3a. On some occasions the update doesn't show here, if this is the case select Search located on the right of the bottom bar of the AppStore
3b. Search NCR Silver Pro Restaurant in the search box and press enter.
3c. Locate the NCR Silver Pro Restaurant app, and select the Logo/Name

5. You should note that the cloud in the top right is now red and warning of a version mismatch.
To update the server application, press ok to this prompt, and press on the red cloud. Follow the prompt to upgrade and wait for the update process to complete (you will need a manger pin to complete this)
6. Once this has completed you will then find the NCR Silver Pro software on the other iPads in the restaurant will no longer function.
Repeat steps 1 to 4 on the other iPads in the restaurant.
