Introduction
Tips can be taken via the Card Machine when using the MyVenue POS app.
It supports multiple ways of doing this via prompts, manual entry on the till, or through a written receipt provided to the customer (as done in the USA).
Changing Tip Settings
Tip settings are controlled at a POS profile level, meaning that you can specify different Tip Modes, or tip amount suggestions, by controlling the venue's locations through the POS Profile feature in MyVenue.
To edit these settings:
- Login to the MV Manager
- POS Setup -> POS Profiles
- Select the POS Profile you wish to edit.
- Click on the Payment Settings tab.
- Click on Tip Settings sub tab.
Tip Modes
There are multiple Tip Modes in MyVenue for different trading circumstances.
"Disabled" - Tips are disabled for this POS Profile.
"Enabled" - This is for the USA.
- When you pay, it will not prompt you to add a tip automatically.
- It is best to add the Tip Suggestion tag to the receipt, this means when the bill is printed and taken to the table, the customer will be able to circle or write the amount of tip they would like to leave.
- Then after you have taken the card payment, you can tap on the payment on the POS, then select "Add Tip". Enter the tip amount from the receipt and then "Finalize". The card's charge will then be reauthorized with the tip added.
For operators who enter tips at the end of the trading day.
- Find the order in previous sales (Swipe right to view completed sales, or swipe left if you have gone past the sale you wanted. If you want to view a list of sales, hit the search icon near the total)
- Tap the pullback icon (looks like a download icon, near the sale total)
- The sale will now be pulled back. To adjust the tip, tap on the credit card payment, this will prompt asking if you would like to reopen the payment. You will need to select yes. You can then perform the above steps.
See adding Tip Suggestions and a tip line to the receipt.
"At Pinpad" - This prompts the customer via the card machine to leave a tip.
- The customer is given 5 options, a choice of manual tip amount, four suggested amounts and a "No Tip" option.
- When the customer selects a tip amount, it is automatically added to the charge on the machine and to the sale in MyVenue.
"Prompt at Payment" - When clicking on a tender, the operator is asked for a tip amount.
Suggested Tip Amounts
Suggested Tip amounts allow a predefined tip percentage to be displayed to the customer on the receipt, or charged via the card machine.
On the Tip Settings page, edit the below figures in the red box.
If you have no figures already there, click on the + icon at the right side until you have 3 options.
The card machines can only display 3 suggested options, plus a manual amount option, so it is best to stay with three suggested amounts in the back office.
Maximum Tip Amounts
A maximum tip amount must be entered on the Tip Settings page.
This is used to warn the customer, and POS operator, if a tip has gone above a percentage of the overall bill.
An example of this being used, would be if the customer adds an extra 0 to the tip amount on the card machine, or if the POS operator doubles a figure when manually entering a tip. It is there to prevent accidental overcharging via tip.
Adding Tip Lines to the Receipt
When using the "Enabled" tipping mode, you will need to add the suggested tip amounts, and a tip line to the receipt.
To do this, go to the Receipt Printer Settings on the POS Profile you are editing, then add the below. Please feel free to edit to suit your requirements.
{SuggestedTips}
Tip £_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Total £_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
